Whys and Wherefores

Whys and Wherefores

Throughout history there have been those who have dedicated their lives to selfish pleasure. In rejecting (or ignoring) social, moral and religious rules they often outraged and offended those around them.

Do you really think they gave a toss?

No.

Often, like John Wilmot the 2nd Earl of Rochester their lives were dramatically shortened by their dissipation but what they left behind was a legacy of genius.

Usually however they shuffled into ill heath and old age (45+) with decimated fortunes, poxed privates, cirrhosis of the liver and of course their memories.

Bucks, Bloods, Roaring Boys, Roué’s and Blackguards they were the rock and roll stars of their day and whatever you think about their morals (and this is certainly not the place to judge them) I find the stories of their lives, times and exploits fascinating.

I hope you feel the same.

Obviously, it’s no skin off my nose if you don’t, so feel free to sod off and visit a page about lace making instead.
